Anthony Jackson

After completing my Bachelor of Education at Queen’s University in Canada in 1987, I opted to explore teaching opportunities in Japan rather than take the easier route of settling for a high school teaching position in Canada. I had planned to stay overseas for a year or two but found the thrill of living and teaching abroad so captivating that, ten years later, I was still enjoying the unique challenges and benefits of living and working abroad. I taught ESL for three years in Japan, three years in Greece, taught primary school in London for two years, and traveled extensively in between assignments.

In 1995, I decided on a career change and returned to Canada to complete my MBA, after which I ventured to New York to apply my newfound professional skills in the business world. For seven years, I worked as a business consultant at various financial institutions before realizing that, despite having found success in these new endeavors, I missed the far more rewarding aspects of my former career as a teacher.

I have been teaching general ESL classes at a private school in New York City for 4 years now. I have also taken on additional work as a part-time business English teacher at several major financial institutions, a position in which I have been able to take full advantage of my former business experience.

As a teacher, I do my best to cultivate an atmosphere of honesty and sincerity in my classes. I not only want my students to feel comfortable exploring the challenges I present to them but also want them to feel empowered to build on the unique skills they already possess in pursuing the aspirations they have set for themselves.
