Getting An Overseas Teaching Job Teaching Overseas
What's the difference between TESOL, TEFL and TESL? Back to top
TESOL (Teaching English as a Second or Other Language), TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) are all internationally recognized acronyms for the same thing with a few subtle, by definition only, distinctions between them.

Why get TESOL certified to Teach English overseas? Back to top
There are four main reasons why getting a TESOL certificate benefit traveling and teaching overseas:

Better Job Prospects
Getting an internationally recognized TESOL/TEFL certificate will vastly improve prospects for employment with a reputable teaching institution. As the demand for ESL teachers grows worldwide, so too does the supply of people willing to do teaching work and annually the competition for teaching positions becomes stiffer, especially in certain desirable teaching locations around the world.

Potential employers, likewise, have become increasingly more selective on whose application they are willing to review. Many employers, although keen to hire mother tongue English speakers, are reluctant to employ a candidate from the US, whom they haven't met in person, solely on the basis of a resume and a telephone interview, without that candidate having some form of teaching credentials.
